Wet and Dry Media Workshop
Capturing Monhegan
A study of color, light, and space.
Every Artist needs time to paint and think without the surroundings of their everyday life. I invite you to come explore your art process in your choice of media.
Discover why this island has captured the imagination of artists for over 150 years.
Come work in the art media of your choice and enjoy the camaraderie and active learning in this workshop.
Explore your art making with all the beauty this island has to offer.
All level of artists welcome!
You will arrive on Friday, with time to get settled before an afternoon group meeting and work session. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mornings will be spent first at the hotel with specific exercises to sharpen your perception of color, light and space. On location painting will be structured with compositional problems to solve in regards to creating space with background, middleground, and foreground. There will be a group discussions, critiques, and individual dialog within your group. Afternoons and evenings are your own to explore the island. Sunday early evening we will start our art walk looking at everyones work .We will then celebrate our hard work over pizza and cheer.
You need to be physically able to walk and carry your easel with supplies.
Tuition is $300 and includes instruction only. Participants make their own transportation, hotel/inn and meal arrangements. Early reservations for accommodations are strongly suggested. $75.00 deposit is required to hold a space in class. Balance is due by March 2012. You will receive information prior to the workshop about planning your supplies to comfortably navigate the island's terrain.
Marguerite Lawler has exhibited pastel and watercolor paintings throughout New England and New York. She has taught at the post-undergraduate level for both Maine College of Art and the University of New England. Marguerite has been a faculty member in the Continuing Studies department at MECA for the past twenty-two years. She holds an MFA from the City University of New York and a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design. In 2004 Marguerite was named Maines Teacher of the Year and recipient of the Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program to Japan. She received the 2008 Maine Arts Educator Fellowship to study painting at the International School of Painting and Drawing in Umbria Italy. This past summer Marguerite was the recipient of the 2011 Stephen Pace House Artist residency through Maine College of Art.

Maine College of Art Continuing Studies Spring 2012
CPT 153 | Watercolor and Gouache | Wednesdays 6:15 - 9:15
Beginning and intermediate painters are invited to learn how to create rich paintings through the practice of layering color in both translucent watercolor and opaque gouache. Both mediums are accessible and portable; they can be used individually or combined. In this course students will learn the methods and materials used in these art processes such as paper surfaces, brushes and pigments. Each class will include step-by-step instruction with demonstrations and time to learn the processes of water media painting. Students will be encouraged to explore the media through experimentation and specific exercises that cover color theory, under-painting, washes, layering in both representational and abstract image. A list of supplies will be emailed to registered students.

CDR 067 | Pastels | Thursdays 6-9
This pastel workshop is geared for beginner and experienced pastel artist interested in learning more about the dry pigment media. Each class will begin in the studio where we will explore methods, materials, and techniques of pastel painting. Classes will include step-by-step demonstrations on how to layer the surface and develop your work. You will be encouraged to explore the media through experimentation with specific exercises. As a class we will explore different surfaces and applications of pastel, wet and dry.
